The first Sunday in June has been dedicated to those people who have faced cancer and survived to tell their stories and help others fight their way through this difficult, life-changing battle. This annual event is held in thousands of communities nationwide and has become an official Celebration of Life event. One this day each year, thousands of people come together around the globe to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that there is life after cancer, after diagnosis, and after the complexities of treatment. Life can be fruitful, inspiring and rewarding once again, after you open your heart to light, love, and whole-body healing!

Whether you are a cancer survivor, family member, caregiver, friend or medical professional- you are invited to celebrate in this day! Take the opportunity to spread the stories and awareness about the effects of cancer in our everyday lives, and the history of the world. The United States of American has over sixteen million cancer survivors and this day gives them a chance to meet each other, share stories, grief, and success. Celebrating milestones of survival and living life with cancer and recognizing those along the way can only help in your personal cancer journey. This day also helps to draw attention to all types of cancer, which helps to further educate and empower the public with more knowledge of symptoms and signs to watch for to achieve early detection and treatment.

Here are some of the top asked questions about National Cancer Survivor’s Day.

What exactly does the National Cancer Survivor’s Day foundation and organizations do?

The nonprofit National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation provides free guidance, education, and networking to hundreds of hospitals, support groups, and other cancer-related organizations that host NCSD events in their communities. Through National Cancer Survivors Day®, the Foundation works to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors by raising awareness of the ongoing challenges of cancer survivorship.

Who is considered a cancer survivor?

The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a survivor as anyone living with a history of cancer, from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. National Cancer Survivors Day® is an opportunity for your community to demonstrate that it has an active, productive cancer survivor population and to bring awareness to the challenges they face during and after treatment.

We hope you will join us in celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day® on the first Sunday in June. To locate an event near you, contact your local cancer treatment center, hospital, or American Cancer Society office. If your community doesn’t currently hold an NCSD celebration, you can help organize one.

If you are interested in setting up a new event in your area, visit the National Cancer Survivors day website and follow their simple directions to get set up! Their simply layout offers a step-by-step assistant, with the option of connecting directly to one of their members by phone or email. Remember, any step we can take to keep all types of cancer in the headlines and spotlight, the better chance of funding the cure!
